The Municipality of Burgos, La Union successfully participated in the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on June 18, 2026 at exactly 9:00 am, reinforcing the community’s commitment to disaster preparedness and public safety.

The activity was spearheaded by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in coordination with Burgos PNP, Burgos FS, the different schools, barangays, government offices and other stakeholders throughout the municipality. Participants simultaneously performed the standard earthquake safety procedure of “Duck, Cover, and Hold” upon the sounding of the alarm, followed by an orderly evacuation to designated safe areas.

Students, teachers, barangay officials, community volunteers and government employees actively participated in the drill, demonstrating their awareness and readiness in the event of a strong earthquake. The exercise also provided an opportunity to review emergency response protocols, evacuation procedures, and coordination mechanisms among responders and community members.

As part of the disaster preparedness activities, Delles Integrated School conducted a Fire Safety Awareness Orientation for students, teachers and school personnel. The activity focused on the importance of fire prevention, identifying common fire hazards and understanding the proper actions to take during fire emergencies.

A practical demonstration on the proper use of fire extinguishers was also conducted. Participants were taught the TPASS method—Twist the Pin, Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle and Sweep from side to side—to effectively and safely operate a fire extinguisher during the initial stages of a fire incident. The hands-on activity enhanced the participants’ knowledge and confidence in responding to fire emergencies while promoting a culture of safety within the school community.

Municipal officials commended the active participation of all schools and barangays and emphasized the importance of regular drills and safety awareness activities in ensuring that every resident is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to emergencies.

The successful conduct of the 2nd Quarter NSED and the accompanying fire safety activities reflect the municipality’s continuing efforts to build safer, more resilient and disaster-ready communities through collective action, preparedness and public awareness.
