A total of 125 tricycle drivers and operators in the Municipality of Burgos, La Union benefited from the Cash Relief Assistance program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) during an offsite payout conducted on April 30, 2026. Held at the Municipal Gymnasium, the activity provided financial assistance amounting to ₱5,000.00 to each qualified beneficiary in response to the continuing increase in petroleum product prices.
The assistance aims to help ease the financial burden experienced by public utility drivers and operators whose daily income and livelihood have been heavily affected by rising fuel costs. As transportation expenses continue to increase, many tricycle drivers have struggled to sustain their daily operations while also meeting the needs of their families. Through this initiative, the DSWD seeks to provide immediate support to one of the sectors most vulnerable to economic challenges brought about by fluctuating fuel prices.
The offsite payout was facilitated by DSWD personnel in coordination with the local government unit of Burgos to ensure the orderly and efficient distribution of assistance. Beneficiaries gathered at the Municipal Gymnasium where verification and payout procedures were carefully conducted to guarantee that all qualified recipients received their financial aid promptly and securely. The activity also highlighted the importance of collaboration between national agencies and local authorities in delivering social protection programs to communities in need.
Recipients expressed their appreciation for the timely assistance, noting that the financial aid would greatly help in covering fuel expenses, vehicle maintenance, and other daily necessities. The DSWD continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting vulnerable sectors through responsive and inclusive social welfare programs, particularly during periods of economic difficulty. The agency likewise reaffirmed its dedication to implementing initiatives that provide immediate relief and promote the welfare of Filipino workers and their families.
