Strengthening community resilience took center stage as the Philippine Red Cross La Union Chapter conducted Red Cross 143 Point of Contacts Enhancement Training on April 17, 2026 at the MDRRMO Building. The initiative gathered participants from various barangays across the municipality, including Barangay Captains, Barangay Kagawads, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), BSPO’s and Barangay IPMR.
The training was facilitated by the chapter, led by Ms. Anna Marie Hufana-Brioso, who emphasized the importance of collaboration, preparedness and grassroots leadership in building disaster-resilient communities. Through a series of discussions and practical sessions, participants were equipped with essential knowledge and skills in emergency response, disaster preparedness and community-based risk reduction.
The Red Cross 143 program continues to serve as a vital platform for strengthening coordination and communication at the barangay level. By empowering local leaders and volunteers, the training enhances the capacity of communities to respond effectively to emergencies and disasters.
More than just a skills-building activity, the event fostered a strong sense of volunteerism, unity and proactive service among participants. It highlighted the shared responsibility of safeguarding lives and promoting resilience through collective action.
With compassion, readiness and a firm commitment to public service, the ongoing partnership between local leaders and the Philippine Red Cross reaffirms its mission to create safer, more responsive communities prepared to face any challenge.
